Purple Thomas Hardys from Wales

I am jet lagged from a fantastic trip to the United Kingdom last week, but I have just enough energy to start sharing my book purchases while there. (I can’t believe I carried so many books home!) I had half of my suitcase full of books and an empty duffle bag filled up by the... Continue Reading →

Meet Me in Nova Scotia

After visiting Prince Edward Island in August, I attended an academic conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On the drive there, I stopped in Truro to meet somebody special: Naomi my blogging friend from Consumed by Ink! I met her outside of the library, a gorgeous building in the heart of Truro where the old brick... Continue Reading →

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables: she's not real, but she's beloved. I can't count how many times I have watched the Anne of Green Gables miniseries, and my husband and I recently enjoyed the new series on Netflix "Anne with an E" with our oldest daughter. Have I read Anne of Green Gables? Yes, but I... Continue Reading →

What I Bought

My last post gushed over visiting Powell's City of Books in Portland, Oregon. Today's post is a report of what I bought while there.   I also purchased a few books at the CCCC conference. Happy reading!

City of Books

I am visiting Portland, Oregon, this week for an academic conference and to receive an award for my dissertation (yay!). Yesterday, I visited Powell's City of Books. It is amazing. It was my first time there! I can't believe I haven't been there before. Here are some scenes from this amazing 68,000 square foot bookstore.

I haven't yet posted about it, and I wanted to share with you the falles, and the museum that houses the best one from each year, since the early 1900s.... Continue Reading →

Taj Mahal

On the last day of our trip, we made it to the Taj Mahal. It was breathtaking, and we arrived at 6 a.m. in order to see the gorgeous stone of the building be lighted by the rising sun. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to see the building, as it changes colors and... Continue Reading →

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

I don’t usually like or use foul language, but I must share with you the fact that Breeanne described our travels yesterday as a “shitshow,” a term now used to also describe the Republican National Convention because of norovirus. But I digress. We woke up at 4:30 yesterday morning to leave Pune, India, where we... Continue Reading →

Bookstore in Pune

We have met some amazing people in Pune, India, for our research. We also get stopped frequently on the street by young women who want to take their picture with us. We are nearly always the only white people on the streets, and we get a lot of stares. We also get a lot of... Continue Reading →
