I’ve had a secret blog for the last few years.
It has been focused on what I’m studying in my Technical Communication and Rhetoric Ph.D. program. The posts on that site helped me to study for and write my comprehensive exams last year, and I use it frequently to revisit the scholarship and conversations surrounding the issues I’m researching. I use the site to write literature reviews and to remind myself of the trends and ideas that are prominent in my field. I add to this blog whenever I read something new in terms of literature in the field of technical and professional communication.
I recently noticed that many of the scholars in my field keep similar blogs, and they keep them public. So today, I am making this blog public. I’d like my loyal followers on this site to see it first.
It is called Reading Technical and Professional Communication, and you can find it at emilyjpetersen.wordpress.com.
I am currently revising my dissertation, and therefore reading more about nontraditional workplaces, strategies and tactics, proving value, and claiming authority in order to frame my research. So you’ll likely see a lot of summaries of literature from the field about those issues.

Your not-so-secret-anymore blog looks very detailed and interesting. I’m interested in communication in the workplace from a feminist standpoint. In one of my undergrad linguistics modules, I learned about language and gender in the workplace. Professor Janet Holmes is one of the main academics in that field. She’s the director of the Wellington Language in the Workplace project, which is doing some very interesting work on communicative practices in the workplace.
Very very cool. I look at professional communication from a feminist perspective as well. I am graduating. Just a few more months!
